A little bit of Shu Uemura Faux Lashes Madness

At the beginning of February, I was presented with 4 pairs of Shu Uemura faux lashes... these pairs are way more extreme and outrageous than what I'd ever wear... however now that I have them I'll have to find occasions to sport them... because they are kind of beautiful and fun...
First up, Neo-Tokyo Odyssey pair - Neo Sparkle lashes. The packaging is so exquisite, I was in love with the box before I even seen the product :)
Lashes are handmade and as sparkly as the box.... disco balls for your eyes :)
Second pair, Takano Dream Coaster lashes... this box looked fun and intriguing...
inside the most ridiculous pair of lashes... I don't know if you can see but each pair has two extra long pieces that end in a feather type fan... they also include some fun stickers that you can stick to your lashes...
Third pair, Magical Windfalls... are individual pieces that you can wear on outer corners... or I suppose you can line them up for a full eye look... lol... I'm not sure...
Fourth and last pair, Dazzling Sapphire Diamante lashes... I think these are my favorite...
now I need a party aspect to my social life :)

Monday to Friday Routine

I don't know if I have fallen into a winter rut, if I'm simply obsessed, or it's sheer convenience. But for over a month now every Monday to Friday these are the products I've been reaching for every single morning… The combo is simple, and naturally neutral, works with every outfit, and I no longer think about it when I do it… my hands go through the motions themselves… On the weekends these are the products I stay away from, and play with my stash :)
But five times a week, I look the same. On daily basis I reach for:
1. Lancôme La Base Pro Primer - I like the texture, not the price, and therefore once done no repurchase.
2. Tarte Clean Slate - to smooth out my under eye area, once I'm done with it, I'm done with it, no repurchase. I only use it as an under eye primer because I bought it, not because I need it.
3. Laura Mercier Eye Basics in Linen - love it, current fave
4. Clinique Airbrush Concealer - will repurchase eventually I think; lovely texture, lovely product, need to use up some other stuff first, including this :)
5. Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra liquid foundation - love this shade, it just blends real easy, and is my perfect color match in Buff 2W
6. Laura Mercier Undercover Pot -  it was a part of a set. I already used up the under eye concealer, and the powder, all that is left is the face cover. It's nice, but no repurchase, so many other concealers out there and in my drawer.
7. Giorgio Armani Lasting Silk UV Compact - haven't done a review on this, but I think I will eventually. It has an spf of 34, love that.
8. Lancôme Tropiques Minérale - love this bronzer
9. CHANEL: Blush Horizon de CHANEL - Soft Glow Blush - spring 2012 infatuation
10. LORAC Eye Shadow in Persuasion - perfect all over lid and brow bone color
11. Burberry Eye Shadow in Almond - I only own 1, it is gorgeous, working my way across it from one corner to preserve the cross hatch pattern :)
12. Clinique Cream Shaper for Eyes - this was also a part of some set, it's a double pencil. Dual end makes for easy work, cream shade (14 cream lustre) under the eyes and inner corner, brown shade (05 chocolate lustre) top lid and lightly over the cream on the bottom
13. Mascara not included, it changes as I use up my samples
14. Dior Brow Styler (001 Universal Brown) - almost done with it actually, no repurchase because I have other products to use up, but I really like the convince and ease of use, the fact that it is twist up and requires no sharpening is a plus as well),
15. CHANEL Rouge Coco Shine in Rebelle 63 - soft, light, moisturizing
16. NARS lip gloss in Turkish Delight - hate it on its own, but a perfect complement to CHANEL Rebelle

and the brushes for the job:
17. Sigma F84 Angled Top Kabuki - it's super soft, and works great with liquid foundation
18. Amazing Cosmetics Concealer Brush - it's short, dense, durable, and it does the job
19. Big Fluffy (is my name for it) - powder and bronzer. The name on it is Elegant Faces, I got it from Jay one Christmas years ago, it's a beautiful brush.
20. i on beauty bamboo blush brush -  blush of course :)
21.  Mini Sigma Blending Brush E24 - for blending in Laura Mercier Linen and Burberry Almond shadow
22. Lancôme Red Shadow Brush -  for Lorac Persuasion lid and brow bone application
23. Spoolie (not pictured) - free from Sephora to brush out brows after pencil

I've seen posts of these types where the beauty blogger actually adds up the cost of the items used... looking at my picture I have a basic idea... feels like a big number... I have no need to confirm :)

Bobbi Brown Bronzing Powder in Golden Light

I had my makeup done at a Bobbi Brown counter sometime last year... at the end of which somehow I purchased a bronzer, that I really didn't need... bronzers is not something that I got through very fast...
the shade is Golden Light (light tan)... the formula soft finely milled powder... no shimmer, no shine, the product is matte
It is a very lovely bronzer, and I have not been disappointed in how it applies, looks, or lasts... highly pigmented, I barely need to touch my brush to the compact to get all the color I need...

Jo Malone Vitamin E Nourishing Hand Treatment

First and unrelated to the post the fabulous Jennifer at JenElizLouise has awarded me the Versatile blogger award... thank you so much Jennifer. Please check out her blog, it's great. All the blogs I love can be found the on the right hand side of the screen... and I've shared random things before about myself... lol... I'm just not much for sharing..

I received a sample of this cream. Used it... and now will review it...

I'd describe this cream as extremely rich, velvety, heavy, creamy, dense, luxurious. It has 'body' to it. My hands feel so wonderful after I use this, soft, not greasy, and the scent is incredibly delicious. It's signature Jo Malone fragrance, if you know what I mean, but it's toned down. It doesn't compete with any fragrance I'd be wearing. So delicious that I navigated to Jo Malone website to check what it is… and I learned that the divine combination is pomelo and cassis. It should be bottled as a Living Fragrance and candles, and cologne, so I can have my house and myself smelling this good.

Price per tube $55 CAD.... ouch!!!. The tube is a generous 100ml… ok not generous at all… so while I adore all things Jo Malone, including this hand cream, I will not spend my money on it. Don't get me wrong I loved my sample, but I adore my Aveda Hand Relief, which is basically half the price or twice the goodness :)

Shu Uemura Rouge Unlimited in BL040

uhhhhhh this lipstick is blue… like sky blue… looks kind of neat in the tube… and it's a pretty color as an arm swatch… but on the lips… ughhhh omg it's really, really ugly… so ugly that I could not bring myself to post one picture… it was horrifying
I don't know what to do with it, or how to wear it. Jay and I had a good laugh about it when I put it on… it just looks wrong, but it feels very nice. The formulation of SU lipsticks is a winning one, they are creamy, light, and simply glide on.
But what to do with a blue shade… can I layer it? do I want to bother? or should I simply toss it… I'm just not a blue lip kind of girl... maybe I'll hold on to it for a little bit... who knows Halloween is coming up :)
I should mention neither Jay's or mine hard earned $$ was spent on this product… it's a little treat Jay brought home with him one day after an event. He shouldn't have, he really shouldn't have :) I'm too square for this round shade of blue :)

Matter Company: All Heal Salve

A little sample tin purchased at the One of a Kind show in November. I wasn't sure when I'll be using it, or if I would ever need it. But as the cold weather rolled around, a dry spot on my hip that first appeared last year, made a come back. So I grabbed for this…

Recommended for body parts affected by the wear and tear of the elements (I didn't know if my hip qualified). But since it claims to smooth and soothe cuts, scrapes, cracked heels on gardeners, campers, and other 'outdoor warriors', even doggie paws, I felt I qualified.

This green pea soup colored salve has a very slight medicinal (green) scent to it. It's so light that I only smell it when I hold the tin under my nose and inhale deeply, when I'm rubbing this on my hip I can't smell it. To get the product out, I scrape the back of my nail over it…once I have some the desired amount, I apply to hip… this stuff melts and feels like oil. It soothes the itchy dry spot and makes me feel good.

Ingredient list is also delicious if not vegan: olive oil, comfrey leaf, burdock root, chickweed herb, plantain leaf, chamomile flowers, beeswax, vitamin E acetate, essential oils of tea tree & lavender.

This is not a must have repurchase for me, simply because once the dry spot goes away, I will have no further need for it. But who knows, maybe next winter I'll get myself a mini tin again.

Matter Company: Heat Rub

This little sample tin was purchased at the One of a Kind Show in November. I run, sometimes I get achy. I wanted something for my muscles that was warming, but not burning.

A quick glance at the ingredient list, had me curious enough to try it: mustard oil, cayenne pepper, ginger root, mustard seeds, beeswax, essential oils of eucalyptus, cayenne, camphor, peppermint & rosemary, thymol crystals.

This stuff is really, really, nice if you like stuff that feels warm on  your skin. It's a gentle soothing heat, it never burns or starts to feel uncomfortable… well it does if you have a cut on your skin :) or if you just exfoliated the heck out of your calf and then decided to slather this on :) But otherwise, it's like a nice warm compress… it feels goooood :)

The scent is spicy but mellow at the same time… which is great, because I don't want to smell like a cayenne pepper and camphor :)

I have also used this on my hands and my feet, when they get really cold… works wonders to bring my digits up to temperature again. Although it is greasy, so you'll leave smudgy fingerprints on anything you touch :) I recommend sitting still, watching some tube and enjoying a glass of something, while the heat works it's magic.

It Cosmetics Brow Power Universal Eyebrow Pencil

It Cosmetics claims that this pencil not only fills in your sparse brows, or gives you some if you have none, but it also "targets the look of brow hair loss, and helps restore your brow hair follicles"… wow I need that.

Some more It Cosmetics stats:
• Contains Brow Enhancing Saw Palmetto, Nettle Extract, Horsetail Extract, Green Tea Extract, Grapeseed Extract
• Paraben-free, Non-comedogenic, Hypo-allergenic
• Waterproof, Sweatproof and Smudge-Resistant
• Universal shade adjusts to all skin tones and hair colors

As I was reading, I liked this product more and more. It comes in a very handy twist up tube (no sharpening needed) and has a brow brush attached at one end.
To achieve your desired depth of color, simply adjust your pressure, for lighter color press lightly, for darker color press more firmly. Sounds easy, doesn't it? The stylus is oval shaped for easy angling...
Well it's definitely easy to use, and easy to blend out, and it wears all day. As for color matching, I've had no issues. Below I drew a few lines using different pressures so you can see the shade gradient.
I haven't seen any positive brow growth, but it's only been a couple of weeks and I'm not a dreamer :) For the universal color and ease of use this pencil gets my stamp of approval.

Shu Uemura Rouge Unlimited Supreme Shine in Metallic Brick Red (RD185)

This is a beautiful shade for fall or winter (or really anytime I feel like wearing it :)) and I'm glad to have it... it's a bit darker than what I'm used to, but I should learn to rock a dark lip more often...
 on my arm in daylight..
 on my lips with flash...
on my lips during a bit of an overcast afternoon...

Beauty Blender

I've been shopping around for it for months now. But everywhere I looked it was $26.00 CAD, for one bloody sponge… plus taxes, and shipping it was just too much to pay for a pink egg.

I never thought to look on the Shopping Channel until I purchased my It cosmetics set and decided to browse the beauty section before checking out. I was so surprised to find it there… free shipping… and two sponges for $28.00 CAD. (One for $21.00… so you see I had to get the double set).

The way I use my sponge, is, I apply my foundation first, either using my fingers or brush. Then wet the sponge, wring it out so it's barely damp, and bounce it all over my face. It neatly smooths out, and evens out my coverage.

I've been using all kinds of foundation brands with this method, and it all works and looks better after the Beauty Blender face bounce. So I understand the hype now.

I own an egg shaped sponge by Sephora so lets do a tiny comparison.

When you wet your BB sponge it swells up. Even after you wring it out, it still remains big, as seen in the pic below. Sephora sponge is much smaller than BB and wet or dry it remains the same size. Bigger sponge, faster work, plus BB is so much more softer... BB worth the money :)

Lush: Magic Wand Bubble Bar

This little treat is no longer available as it was part of the Holiday 2011 special. I picked up two late December during the post Holiday two for one sale.

How to use… swirl under running water for some bubble action. You don't need to melt it all just the amount that gives you the personal perfect amount of foam. I must say this bubble bar is exceptional… it produces rich luscious foam, and it holds up while you soak… It also smells lovely.

I read one bloggers review and she was on her 15th bath, using the same wand!!! I think that's miraculous :) I am a bath product hog, there no way I was going to reach double digits, but even I had 5 super foamy baths using one wand.

So bottom line, this was definitely worth the money… even more so that I paid for 1 but got 2 :) And it would be lovely if Lush made it a permanent staple in their line, but if not, then at least they should bring it back for 2012 Holidays :)

Shu Uemura Rouge Unlimited Supreme Shine in Shimmering Cocoa (BR760)

Now another delicious Shu Uemura lippie... I love the formula, the feel, and the glossy finish. Shimmering Cocoa is a departure from my mauve-rose comfort zone, it is a bit on the brown side... but the feel of this on my lips has me wearing it...
 A quick arm swatch...
 and a lip shot...

Laura Mercier Corner Faux Lashes

I love fake lashes, love them… well I love how they look on others, I don't know how to wear them myself.

For my wedding I had individual fake lashes, but they were applied by a professional… it looked awesome, but it seemed like a lot of work to make sure both eyes are even :)

I decided to start slow and got myself a pair of semis. I probably should have shopped around more, because these set me back $22.00 CAD ($18.00 USD). That seems like a lot for only one pair and some black adhesive.

But with shaky hands, and no clue I stuck these to the outer corners of my eyes one day. The effect was subtle, I don't think anyone even knew I had these on. Even I had hard time telling the difference if I quickly glanced in the mirror :) Still these are a nice fake lash baby step for newbies. The package says they're good for 7 wears… mmmm ok… I don't know if I should take that literally.

Overall these are definitely my kind of lashes, there, but not really, until I'm ready to graduate to something fuller… I just don't think I'd repurchase these specifically, because the price tag seems kind of steep for only 7 wears.

By the way black eyelash glue does not come out of a white towel… it just doesn't.

Fresh: Soy Face Cleanser

This little sample tube was part of a set I purchased during the Holidays. I've always been tempted by this cleanser but somehow I could never just put a tube of it in my basket;  150ml (5.7oz) retails for $44 CAD ($38 USD).

This cleanser is made without: sulfates, synthetic fragrances, synthetic dyes, phthalates, GMOs, or triclosan; but it does contain parabens... blurb:
"The Soy Face Cleanser from Fresh instantly whisks away everyday impurities and makeup—even mascara—without stripping the skin of essential moisture. Rich in amino acids, soy proteins promote moisture retention, elasticity, and firmness. Rosewater balances and tones the skin. Fragrance-free and soap-free, calming cucumber extract and nourishing borage seed oil enriches its formula."

It does have that cucumber scent. But I'm not sold on all these supposed benefits. I mean this is a cleanser not a moisturizer, it will be on your face for a very brief time… does your skin really absorb and benefit from all these ingredients? I'm very doubtful...

I used it with my Clarisonic and my fingers, and this cleanser does not foam at all. It is very gentle and non-drying. It felt like it did get the job done, but somehow I wasn't won over. I can't quite put my finger on it, but something was missing… the scent, consistency just didn't gel for me.

Anyways as you can tell from this very brief review, I am not a fan… glad I tried a little sample first, because I wouldn't be happy with myself if I spend $44 on it.

Shu Uemura Rouge Unlimited Supreme Shine in Sienna BG943

Jay brought me a couple of Shu Uemura lipsticks home one day, I'll be posting swatches of each in the coming days. Packaging is simple enough, a nice silver bullet with a clear plastic cap...
The color Sienna... a nice warm shade...
 arm swatch...
on the lips the shade is really subtle, but the shine is irresistible... the formula extremely silky... this stuff simply glides on...
