Nail Polish Swatch - CHANEL Sky Line (148.567)

Products used:
1. Horse Power Nail Fertilizer by Butter London - base coat
2. CHANEL Sky Line - Blue Illusion Collection
3. OPI Blue Shatter - accent on my ring finger
4. Seche Vite dry fast top coat - favorite of many polish addicts out there. But I don't know how I feel about it, I found it to be thick and the scent is really strong... we'll see how it holds up on my nails
5. Zoya Hurry Up - speed drying drops
PS. I understand that the shatter phase might be over, and we're all crazy for magnetic polishes now. But I haven't painted my nails in 2 years, haven't played around with shatters enough to give them up just yet.

I apologize for my dry cuticles... I moisturize, but not well enough it seems.

a little haul

You know how just one post ago I was bragging about how good I've been at keeping my wallet in m purse... well that an unwise little claim...

We stopped by Holt's on Friday and I scummed to my kryptonite... nail polish... and a couple pairs of shoes. Yes... I buy shoes at Holt's... the sale is on... I'll brag about my deals in upcoming posts...

For now here is a snapshot of what's to come:

SheaTerra Organics Haul

I'm surprised at how good I've been lately with keeping my wallet in my purse. I haven't been oblivious to all the upcoming fall releases, just strangely not tempted. I probably will end up with a couple of nail polishes, but that's about it.

However lately as I've been slowly running out of my body wash, I was wondering what I should replace it with. I know that in this post I wanted the jumbo size of PTR wash… but then I thought of my $70 and I started to question myself… in the end I've decided to love it but leave it.

Instead I spent my money on African Black Soap from SheaTerra Organics. I chose this company because I have a divine tub of mud/clay that I purchased way back, and love it. Along with soap I also picked up a tub of hand cream, a bottle of face wash (for my night time routine, running low), and a sampler of shea whipped body butter. All this for approximately the same price as the PTR cleanser.
I'll let you know in a couple of weeks or so, how I'm enjoying all these goodies.

Boscia Purifying Cleansing Gel

I've decided to change up my morning face wash. No matter how much I love a product eventually I need to stray and try something new. Since I adore Boscia's MakeUp-BreakUP Cool Cleansing Oil (for now :)) I've select the Purifying cleanser from their line for my morning routine.
It was a good choice. Boscia range has my stamp of approval. Everything I've tried so far from this line I loved, including this cleanser. Formulated with amino acids (soap-free), it is an extremely effective cleanser. Leaves my skin feeling sparkly clean but never dry or tight. Consistency is viscous enough not to feel watery, clear in color, has a gentle lather and a pleasant sweet organic scent. Works great with my Clarisonic, but most of the time I just use my fingers. I feel Clarisonic first thing in the morning is an overkill… on the other hand at the end of the day it is much needed.
The only sting when it comes to this cleanser is the price tag. A 150ml (5 fl oz) bottle retails for $31 CAD ($26 USD). But I'll pay, unless something else tempts me for my morning face wash.

Garlic for strong beautiful nails

I read about this treatment on one of the blogs I follow, quite some time ago. I wish I could remember the blog and author because I'd love to give this person credit for putting ideas in my head :)

The gist of the treatment is: cut a fresh garlic clove in half, and rub the cut site all over your nails and cuticles, to promote strong healthy nails. Recommended once a week but more often is better.

I've been doing this sporadically. Once I'm done rubbing, I leave my fingers all sticky and garlicky and watch tv for a little bit. Then I wash off… the scent of garlic really lingers. I hear lemons help to neutralize it, but I haven't tried it.

My nails are looking great (well for me, I've had horrible nails forever now :)), but I'm not sure if it's due to the garlic regimen I do now and then, or more likely because I've been taking supplements and moisturizing like crazy. Either way I'm ready to paint… my nail polish drawer has been collecting dust and new bottles for almost two years now…. or has it been over two years... hmmmm... either way, too long for sure.

Anywho I'm hoping I won't suffer any lapses with my nails, and will continue to rub garlic on them now and then. I'm not sure if it's helping, but it can't hurt. Cheap household remedies are so good for my wallet.

Is anyone else out there rubbing garlic on their fingers, or is it just me and this blogger I got the idea from?

I am not exaggerating…

look three times on one page!
started book 4, I seriously hoped Arya was on hiatus in this volume… but no such luck :)

my sunset dress... or is it sunrise?

Neiman Marcus online can have some nice sales... if you're patient and accept that sometime the item you want will sell out out of your size before it goes on sale... I'm willing to let things go. Also I will not purchase unless free shipping is available as well...

Well all of those things aligned for me with this dress a few years back. I just love how colorful it it. It's 100% silk, very light and airy, and perfect for summer.

On a side note, I'm almost done with the third volume of Games of Thrones. I'm not enjoying the story as much as I thought I would, but I'm still turning the pages. However Arya needs to stop biting and chewing her lip... seriously I'm surprised she has any lip left at all at this point.

Kevyn Aucoin: The Essential Eyeshadow Singles in Whisper and Oro

I have two Kevyn Acuoin shadows. They were acquired a couple of years ago... when my makeup obsessions started... the packaging is quite lovely....
My first shadow is Whisper... a pale rose champagne color... it doesn't look it in the pan... but scroll down for the swatches
My second shade is Oro... a golden champagne color... It didn't come this way... I dropped it and shattered the powder... fixed it back up but didn't achieve that perfectly smooth surface... I just didn't have the patience...
the colors are beautiful... I love Whisper for all over the lid... and Oro for inner corner and highlight... or more like I would love Whisper for all over the lid if it didn't crease on me... I use Laura Mercier Eye Basics as my primer... none of my other shadows crease, except this one... it's beautiful just not a favorite...

from Spain

a friend at work had an awesome vacation a couple of weeks ago... she came back with a little souvenir for me... I love this necklace... colorful, and unique when it comes to my collection...
On an unrelated side note... a few days ago Jay and I watched the Miami Vice movie with Colin Farrel and Jamie Fox... oh it was so bad, why was this movie so bad?!... If you were to make yourself an alcoholic drink and take a sip everytime the word "load" was used, you won't remember the second half of the movie :).... just bad...

Grapes of Wrath

This Saturday my sister, her friend, and I run an extreme obstacle course for charity. It was located at 13th St winery in St. Catharines (you can read more about it HERE). It was only 5K but there were 13 obstacles. I attempted all but completed only 12, I'm terrified of heights and could not scale a wall, instead I was punished with 20 burpees... after which I wished I attempted the wall harder :)

It wasn't easy, I need to work on my upper body strength... but it was incredibly fun. We were treated to lunch by Subway, wine or beer, and all the water we could stomach :) Each participant received a baggie of goodies which included a t-shirt, and as we crossed the finished line we were awarded dog tags, which I love most of all.
Awesome husband did not participate, but was there to cheer us on and document our adventure. Here is me on top of a mud hill, right after I wadded through a ditch filled with pond water, and what I'm sure was manure because we all smelled like it :)

If you're a bloody careless fool who flings her camera (albeit accidentally) against a wooden chest and two tiny pieces snap off from the lens... that lens becomes a very pricey paperweight... there is no fixing it...

I have a little bit of self-hate for myself right now....

small essentials haul

this past Monday I had to restock on three staples and I decided to pick up a new item that I've never tried before...

the essentials:
- Shiseido Facial Cotton: once you try one you just can't go back to anything else... well at least I couldn't
- Shiseido Ultra Sun Protection Cream for Face SPF 50 (very water resistant): I need this year round, but especially in the summer
- Vichy Capital Soleil Sunscreen Cream SPF 60: for the rest of my body... it doesn't feel greasy the way other sunscreens can and it doesn't have that 'sunscreen' scent... love it...

the newbie:
- L'Oreal Paris Voluminous Million Lashes Waterproof Mascara: I plan to visit the beach a couple of times, and have a couple of events where water will be involved... because of the way I am I plan to wear a waterproof eyeliner, and needed a waterproof mascara... never tried this one... we'll see how it holds up...

my sunday

main beach at Wasaga.... was an experience... need to visit a couple more times before the end of summer... the water was way too cold for me to take a dip... but lounging in the sun was so relaxing :)
