It Cosmetics CC+ Veil Beauty Fluid Foundation SPF 50+

I've said before that if I only had to choose one company for my foundation needs it would be IT Cosmetics... I still stand by that statement (even if I stray to try something else now and then).

This little gem was part of a showstopper way back (I believe Sept. '14). I bought it as a part of showstopper but I really didn't pay attention to the demonstration happening on my TV screen. I was listening to it but not watching it. What I heard had me sold. One that this foundation contains an anti-aging serum and two that it has a high mineral (not chemical) sunscreen.
I usually choose light when it comes to IT foundation, but in this case I chose medium, because I felt I would be wearing this a lot in the summer. Well I took it with me to Cuba and have been wearing it daily since. This shade works for me (I use a light hand), but I am curious if light would be better.
The compact is a sizable smooth rounded dome, that feels light for it's size.
Pop it open to reveal levels :)
Now, under the sponge level, we have some instructions. I read them but totally did not register point number 2.
So when I peeled it back, I thought the sight that greeted me was a weird spongy textured foundation. Well no, that' s not the case. It is a sponge in which foundation is suspended. You press into it to get to the liquid. Now I believe IT is the first American cosmetics company to do this. I haven't seen or heard about this technology until I got this compact; and only very recently learned from Lisa Eldridge that the cushion type packaging is huge in Korea.

Like all other IT foundations this one is yet another texture and coverage winner for me. It has a light  feel and very good pigmentation. Coverage is medium, it evens out redness but I do need a concealer to cover up any spots. Blends in into the skin smoothly, and wears all day for me with minimal fading.
As with all IT foundations, color selection is limited, only 5. But it's not the color that will keep me from repurchasing; it's the amount for the price. Because dollar per oz this is the most expensive foundation I have ever worn. It retails for $38 for 10ml (.34 fl oz)!!! That works out to be $114 for 30ml (1 fl oz)!!! I am beyond glad that this was part of a Showstopper.

I'm just not ready to pay that much for so little. I've been using this daily for over 3 weeks now, I might make it to 1 month, but that's it, the product is running dry and if re-fills are available (I don't know, I didn't look), I won't be buying any.

Bottom line great stuff if you have cash to spare. Otherwise choose any other foundation from IT for your buck.

Lastly the brush I applied it with (it was part of the deal). I haven't used the small (concealer end), but the buffing end is fantastic, super soft with ideal density for working with a light liquid foundation.
IT brushes are worth having in your collection.

Origins Plantscription Anti-aging Eye Cream

When it comes to a good basic eye cream that feels great and doesn't cost an arm and a leg I think Orignis provides a variety of options that will fit any need.

I've been tapping Plantscription Anti-Aging eye cream on mine for the past several weeks. I'm well past my youthful plump 20's. Now it's all about slowing down the inevitable, and I tend to gravitate towards products that have "anti-aging" or "pore minimizing" in their name or description.

This one claims to "repair crow's feet, under eye cross hatching, crepey lids, and sagginess". But does it really? Well unless I have an exact twin who doesn't use any of the products I do, or I only apply this on one eye (which I won't do)... I can't really determine to what degree if any this lives up to it's claims.
But that doesn't stop me from hoping that it does it all :) It definitely has the perfect creamy texture. It taps in smoothly with no residue, helps to keep the fine skin around my eyes moisturized... and truth be told that's all I expect from my eye cream... anything else is a bonus.
I know that on top of it's winning texture, many love it for what it doesn't contain; which is:
- Parabens
- Sulfates
- Synthetic Fragrances
- Synthetic Dyes
- Petrochemicals
- Phthalates
- GMOs
- Triclosan
So, if an eye cream is a daily staple in your routine (it is in mine), I'd recommend Origins to you; if you haven't given it a chance already.

Laura Mercier Eye Pencil in Violet

I always make a point of checking out what's new each season at LM counters. I don't always buy, but I often wish I did. This little treat was included in the HR beauty bag this past holiday season, and I was happy to note that it wasn't a classic black.
But a gorgeous deep creamy purple or violet as the name states on the packaging.
Great smooth formula that simply glides on. Smudges easily and wears beautifully.
2014 was the year of the purple eye for me, so it's nice to get this at the end, especially since I begun 2015 still wearing purple eyeshadow practically every single day. I have a feeling this will change soon, but until then, this pencil is an easy fave.

ugly dress ...

I know that ugly is in the eye of the beholder... but damn I don't know who'd think that, 1) this dress is pretty and 2) worth the money. I mean I'm sure this model can't be bigger than size 4, and she looks like a box ....  then again I'm a jeans and t-shirt kind of gal :)

MUFE Acqua Shadow Pencil in 20E & 28E

I don't know if MUFE sells these pencils anymore. I got them a while back, when Sephora had this duo set. I actually got two sets, one I took with me to Cuba for an easy day eye that would hold up in water, the second one I gave to my sister.
I stumbled upon these unopened gems while packing... and wondered how they compare to Laura Mercier's Caviar sticks.
Well the colors are very pretty; 20E is a lovely frosty taupe, and 28E is a lovely frosty beige champagne.  The color payoff is beautiful and they wore very well all day with occasional dips in the ocean. I like them on their own or as a base for other shadows.
But I must say that in texture they don't even come close to LM caviar sticks. These aren't as creamy and you have to put in some time, patience, and wrist action to blend them out.
But they apply evenly and are great on the go; and while I don't have any plans or need to acquire more, I don't regret this purchase either.

My Jellyfish Encounter

I've seen reactions to jellyfish stings on TV... and I've always wondered, is it really as bad as it was portrayed? Well as of Jan 4th I no longer have to wonder. Now that I know exactly what it feels like, I hope to never feel it again.

The pain is incredible, I can only describe it as barbed wire and fire...

I was frolicking with my husband off the coast of Cuba in the Atlantic ocean, when I thought my ankle got tangled in something sharp (barb wire)... I was more surprised than in pain at that moment because our beach was pristine. But then the back of my other leg burst into fire and I suddenly new that I've been kissed by a jellyfish. I didn't know if it was one or many, or how big, because I couldn't see it, I could just feel it. When it got the side of my leg, I couldn't get out of the water fast enough. It didn't help that prior to our vacation I watched an episode of CSI Miami in which a person falls into a tank of jellyfish and dies from their stings.... yeah.... to say that I panicked would be an understatement.

But thankfully I made it out of the ocean, and it wasn't a poisonous jellyfish (as I am back in Canada and typing this up :))... but damn it was painful.

At first there was no sign on my legs of the encounter, even though I could feel the pain/burn. Then after a couple of minutes the welts showed up.

First the ankle bracelet...
Then the back of leg hug...
and the side peck....
After a couple of hours the welts subsided into cat scratches... the pain went down a notch as well. Although it was still strong enough that I couldn't even stand the feel of my skirt brushing against it.
The culprit washed up on shore by the end of the day... and it's no wonder we couldn't see the sucker in the water. With the help of my husband we returned it to the ocean.... I just didn't feel right letting it dry out.
For the next 3 days I only dipped my toes in the water...  the burn stays fresh in your mind, and I did not want to experience it again so soon.

I still have the jellyfish scratch marks on my leg and they still flare up and itch occasionally... I'm sure they'll go away eventually, and maybe by that time I'll be ready for another dip :)

P.S. I've checked out other jellyfish stings on Instagram this morning... My jellyfish encounter was tame compared to others. I don't feel as traumatized anymore :)

I planned to put this up on Jan 4th, but I forgot to upload it before I left for Cuba...  here it is a bit late, my December beauty shopping :)

Love - Hourglass Lighting Blush Palette

I think if you love makeup and you didn't have this prior to the VIB Rouge Sale this past November, then this was on your "get" list once the sale rolled around. It sure was on mine. I love Hourglass products, and this is a gem in my collection.
I was a bit nervous about the colors, because I swatched all the full sized versions on my hand in store, and didn't find anything I like enough to buy. Strangely this did not stop me from putting this in my basket :)... and when I finally got my package and got a chance to try it out on my cheeks... I fell in love.
Every shade is gorgeous... every shade is perfect. I'm so glad to have splurged on this.... I'm so glad to score it during a sale even more :)

Clinique Chubby Stick in Super Strawberry (07)

I've seen several favorable reviews about Clinique's Chubby Sticks when they first came out. I wanted to try one... but Clinique is not a makeup brand I gravitate to, and I wasn't sure I really needed another lip product... or that I would like it... shade options were also something to consider, and I was undecided.

But this holiday collection finally settled my dilemma... and I've added a mini Chubby Stick in Super Strawberry (sheer berry pink) to my collection (well actually to my purse).
It's described as "nourishing" and "moisturizing" lip balm.  It does feel very comfortable and light when swiped on the lips... non-sticky and without any scent (to my nose).
Color payoff is minimal (this swatch is heavily layered). But it is described as "sheer" so I didn't expect much. For a quick swipe on the go without a mirror this is perfect. The fact that the pencils twist up and need no sharpener make them that much more convenient.
I might check out other shades, but that doesn't mean I will purchase. Deep down I'm still a gloss girls, followed by lipstick, followed by a tinted balm :)

Video: Beauty Empties - Dec. 2014

I hope everyone is having a fantastic 2nd of 2015... I'm working on my tan... but before I left I pre-filmed a couple of my regulars... first up ... the empties :)
