BBG - Week 6

Monday - Arms and Abs
Week 6  starts with a switch up. Instead of Legs & Cardio on Monday we have Arms and Abs. Since I also did a lot of Arms and Abs on Sunday (postponed week 5 Friday workout by two days), today was hard.... but isn't it always? :)

Kayla continues to present workouts requiring two gym benches. Not going to happen in this tiny condo.

Tuesday: LISS (low intensity steady state)
My regular walk, and I finished all of the episodes of Criminal.

Wednesday: Abs & Cardio
It's ab week. No time to recover, belly has been feeling it all week... too bad it's not looking it :) No weights and no commandos today which made me happy. This better start paying off soon... Charlotte Tilbury makeup line is launching at Holt Renfrew today, and she was there personally (Bloor St. location). I passed on it, just so I can sweat like an animal for 30min... worth it? I'll let you know in 6 weeks :) Making a CT reward  shopping list in my head :)

Thursday: LISS (low intensity steady state)
Listened to an episode of This American Life today. It was good. But there was only that one. I have a backup podcast. I'll let you know if it was any good at the end of week 7.

Friday : Legs & Cardio
Did not happen. Came home and had a BBQ.

Saturday: LISS + Rehabilitation + Friday's Legs & Cardio
Woke up at 7 and started off my weekend with Friday's workout. Kayla introduced another move I'm not fond of: Tuck Jumps, my butt jiggles a bit too much when I do it :) As well Split Squats required a step bench, not falling for it. Lastly there is no room in my living room for Broad Jump Burpees... regular ones will have to suffice.

OMG Sephora!!! I think we just broke up :(

Many of the items on my loves list that I've purchased in the past from Sephora are no longer shipped to Canada... this might be the beginning of the end for us.

Liquid Blender Cleanser

I have about 1/4 inch left of this in my bottle. This was a curiosity purchase, and now that curiosity has been satisfied it will not be repeated. It's a good cleanser (basic), but good does not merit $23CAD price tag. You can find plenty of cheaper options that will work just as well.

I enjoyed the lovely lavender scent, and I had nothing against the packaging. But the 4-star review on Sephora is not justified in my opinion. The life of my beauty blender is not being extended (after 6 months of daily use that little sponge is on its last legs), and so it's not as pristine as I imagined this cleanser will maintain. I also need at least 3 pumps to get my beauty blender clean enough... too much soap for the money.

I take a pass on the liquid version. I will occasionally repurchase the solid version for travel convenience. Other wise Beauty Blender love your sponge (the original pink one), like your solid cleanser, and this will become a past memory soon :)

As always this it just my humble opinion. You are more than welcome to disagree, after all you earn your own money and you spend it the way you want to just as I do mine :)

Korres Jasmin Lip Butter

I wanted the white (colorless one) in Guava, but Sephora was sold out, and so I clicked Jasmin into my basket. It was a good decision. Jasmin is a pale pink nude color, that slightly neutralizes the color of my lips. I love putting this on first thing in the morning before I start my makeup to let it hydrate and nourish my lips. Texture is super smooth and comfortable. Sometimes I apply another color over, sometimes I don't, the lovely sheen this leaves on my lips plays well either way.

I don't carry this around with me because it's a pot not a tube. While I'm comfortable sticking my freshly washed finger in it at home, I wouldn't be able to do so anywhere else.

Korres is a natural and environmentally friendly feel good kind of a brand. I feel better for using it :) The delicious light caramel-vanilla scent of this product is a sweet bonus that will most likely lead to a re-purchase.

BBG - Week 5

Monday - Legs & Cardio
Week 5 starts off with a progress photo. After comparing it to my other two (one taken at the very beginning, and one after 4 weeks of pre-training), I've realized that I won't be an Instagram success story.  It might take me a little longer than 12 weeks. Feeling stronger though :)

Tuesday: LISS (low intensity steady state)
Two more episodes and I will be all caught up on Criminal.... what's next for my LISS walks?

Wednesday: Arms and Abs.
Today I felt discouraged. I felt as if Kayla turned up the intensity in week five 100%... felt like my first day. Also I thought this workout was targeted for anyone who prefers to workout in the comfort of their livingroom... but I'm guessing it's not. In week 5 Kayla has moves that require the use of two gym benches. I don't even have one, and I have no plans to make that purchase either. I did without; my ottoman is my bench and it's not suitable for all the exercises... that's when improvisation comes to play.

Also once again I skinned my elbows during commandos... yup it was a hard workout.

Thursday: LISS (low intensity steady state)
If I have a choice between my 30 min of Kayla and anything else, I choose Kayla. I have opted-out of attending a couple of events because they would disrupt my weekly schedule.... yup I'm committed. Having said that, today I skipped LISS (my walk home) in favour of a pedi at the Ritz. I promise to make it up with extra weekend city strolls. My toes are looking good :)

Friday : Full Body
I just couldn't. One Thursday night ran late, and I went to bed way past my bedtime. I did wake up at my regular time for my morning routine with Tracy. Two, a long day at the office left me drained. I came home, I had a glass of wine, dinner, and promptly fell asleep. Promised myself to catch up over the weekend.

Saturday: LISS + Rehabilitation
A day in Niagra Falls. I'm putting this down as rehabilitation :)

Sunday: Friday's Full Body
Sunday is a day off. But it was bothering me that I didn't finish my week. So first thing this morning I got down with Kayla. Thankfully there were no commandos. My elbows are still recovering from the last session.

Caudalie Moisturizing Toner

I used this up a few days ago and kind of miss it. As toners go this one was on the more affordable side for me ($28 CAD)... I replaced it with something more expensive, and I think I should have just stuck with Caudalie.

Anywho this toner claims to purify and moisturize all in one; and I would say it did. It removed any makeup I might have missed (I only used this at night), and left my skin feeling very comfortable (no tightness).

It had a very refreshing light scent that I couldn't quite place, so I hit up Sephora to find out what it is. Good ol' S tells me its "notes of citrus flower, orange tree leaves, watermelon, and crushed mint"... definitely mint, as for the rest I'll take their word for it.
I would highly recommend this product and so do most of the Sephora reviewers (almost a perfect rating). It's alcohol free and cruelty free and feels amazing on your skin. I will be going back to this for sure.

Shu Uemura Cleansing Beauty Oil Premium A/O Advanced Formula

Isn't this a cute bottle... cute and creepy at the same time... it's the red eyes that get me. A result of collaboration between Shu Uemura and Karl Lagerfeld.

I would like to mention right off that  I did not purchase this, but I still want to talk about it, because I love it and the replacement will be paid for with my own money.

For the longest time Boscia was my oil cleanser of choice. But Boscia comes in only one size, and since this is something I use every single day, I would use it up rather quickly.

I was always curious about Shu Umeura and their selection of cleansing oils (they have a few), but I just wasn't willing to part with my money. So when this fell into my hands I was very excited; because I was finally going to experience what the hype is about, and if the hype was going to be true for me as well, then I've just found a cleansing oil that comes in mega size (450ml).

My version was the anti/oxi skin refining formulation (green in color). It claims to address skin dullness and aging with moringa and green tea extracts. Since I live in a big city and I'm closer to 40 than I am to 30, anything with above claims and a promise to fight and remove pollutants has my interest.

At the beginning I was put off by the scent (somewhere in between mineral oil and plastic to my nose). But I got passed it, and now I don't even notice it. What I love is how well this melts my makeup off. Just as good as Boscia, nothing I put on my face can withstand this oil, and at the end of the day it is dissolved with ease.

It's this makeup removal power plus the fact that it comes in a super sized bottle that has me planning a repurchase. I just found my new fave, and I love that my local Sephora has it on its shelves. I will get anti/oxy again for sure and then try to score a sample of Blanc, Porefinist, and Ultime8.

I love face oil...

love it. It's my favorite nighttime moisturizer/treatment. So when I received this promo email from Sephora I pounced on it. I needed to repurchase a couple of items anyways. Plus Luna Sleeping Oil is getting so many rave reviews. I am curious but I didn't want to drop $131 CAD + taxes without a trial run. Can't wait to slap this on my face.

BBG - Week 4

Monday - Legs & Cardio
Week 4 began with some knee pain. Let me explain. On Saturday I went out to celebrate a birthday. I wore a dress and these ridiculous wedges.  I love them, they are beautiful, but they are high; and at the restaurant we had dinner at the seats are low. So my knees were higher than the bench for about 2.5 hours. I don't know why but I cannot sit with my knees bent for a very long time, I need to stretch my legs out (there wasn't room) or this crazy pain sets in. This day it was pain. My knees were out of sorts for about 3 days... gosh I am starting to feel old.

Anyways what I'm getting at is that Monday was tough, it being a Leg& Cardio day that is loaded with squats. The stepping step made a second appearance... still don't have one... maybe I should start looking.

Tuesday: LISS (low intensity steady state)
Picked up a new pair of sunglasses today. Had pizza and dessert for dinner. Then power walked home (approx 30min), to make it in time to watch UnReal (new favorite show).

Wednesday: Arms and Abs.
Ahh commandos... my abs give out before my arms :) It's a lot of plank work keeping this jelly off the ground.

Thursday: LISS (low intensity steady state)
Once again walked with Criminal... what will I listen to next? I can't walk for 30-45min with my own thoughts :)

Friday : Full Body
And it wasn't optional. First set had brupees, second set commandos. I am exhausted. I start to sweat the minute I begin. It's as if my body knows it's Kayla time. There was a glass of wine at the end of this sweaty session :)

Saturday: LISS + Rehabilitation
The usual: market, house cleaning, city walking (need some cat food, I will venture to my old hood).

Tarte Clean SlateTimeless Smoothing Primer

I finished this product on May 31st, and realized, I have not talked about it on my blog. Well time to remedy this oversight.

The tiny jar on the right is a deluxe sample of this primer. I loved it so much that I purchased the full sized version.

I don't have many Tarte products, but this one was a good one... or good for my skin type anyways (oily combo but with occasional dry patch).

As you can see from the shot, this is a thick primer. It smooths out your skin (fine lines and large pores), and has a mattifying effect.  Makeup glides on over it. To my nose it didn't have much of a scent, and despite it's thick texture, it felt light once applied.  By noon, I did need to blot (nothing lasts forever).

Tarte product always make me feel good about my choice... with a claim that it contains vitamins C & E,  and green bean extract I felt good about putting this on my skin... and in my mind imagined all kinds of benefits I was getting :)

I enjoyed it while I had it, but new products are released every day, and I like to change it up, so I'm filing this away as a goodie and potential future re-purchase.

BBG - Week 3

Monday - Legs & Cardio
Week 3 started off with lack of sleep and lots of squats. I didn't find legs & cardio as intense this time around as I did in previous weeks... either it was an easy one or I'm getting fitter. Let's go with the latter one :)

Feeling tired and strong :)

Tuesday: LISS (low intensity steady state)
Glutes feeling tight today, after Monday squat marathon; and as always I walked home listening to Criminal.

Wednesday: Arms and Abs.
First circuit is all arms, second is all abs. Both muscle groups are exhausted and quivering at the end of the session. At least no burpees this time around :)

Thursday: LISS (low intensity steady state)
The weather was so nice today... walked with Criminal. Now I'll be really sad when I finally catch up with this show.

Friday : Full Body (optional)
A Friday that is optional once again. I did not skip, I am convinced that my body is getting tighter and harder. Also my goal at the end of each workout during my stretch cool down has been to touch my toes with ease without bending my knees... today I have done it... it felt so good :)

Saturday: LISS + Rehabilitation
I feel I should take these Saturday schedules more seriously, but it's just not happening. Today's "rehab" plan includes: market, house cleaning, birthday celebration :)

Gerard Cosmetics Lip Gloss in Rose Hill

In today's post I'll show you the lip gloss I acquired from Gerard cosmetics; the shade of which was created by YouTube beauty guru Jaclyn (to see her lipstick click here).
The name of her shade is Rose Hill, and Jaclyn said her goal was to create a perfect rose shade that a girl of any skin tone could wear.
There is a gimmick to this packaging. It comes into play when you unscrew the lid, and the lights come on :)
I should point out that one side of the tube is mirrored (be sure to remove the protective plastic film first).

So the point of light and mirror... you are able to apply and reapply your Gerard lip gloss in any lighting situation... you're stuck in a dim room, a blackout, or a cave, but feel the need for a touch up, well you're covered with Gerard.

Honestly I hate those little lights. One, if I'm somewhere with poor light, I probably don't need lip gloss, no one is going to see it anyways. Two, I have a hard time staying within my lip lines when using this wand. I find the light distorts the color and somehow confuses my eye.  I am really tempted to take a pair of pliers and remove them. For now though, I put a smear of this on the back of my hand and use a separate lip brush to get this on my lips.

But for the packaging quirks that I don't like. The color and formula did not let me down. The shade is a beautiful bright summery rose red. It has smooth even opacity and a very pretty sheen. It's non-sticky and has great wear (until I decide to eat).
So overall I'm really liking my two Gerard purchases (wish they offered the lip gloss without the light packaging... but oh well)... Would love to find this brand one day at SDM... until then, job well done Gerard and Jaclyn.

Sephora Temptation

Couldn't resist... I am too curious about that mascara and lip product (even though it's red)... 3 items from my Sephora "love" list are on their way to my house :)
