Tom Ford Cream Color for Eyes - Sphinx 03

Another YouTube motivated purchase. A beauty guru who I watch regularly had high praise for this item but also cautioned that it is very hard to find.  Supposedly it sells out the minute it arrives at the counters. I purchased mine from HR on Bloor Street (I was told it was the last one).

This is my first Tom Ford makeup item (not counting the two bottles of polish I own). One day I hope to acquire a shadow quad... one day.
The reason my shadow isn't evenly distributed in the pot, is because the SA dropped it; that didn't deter me from buying it (quality of the product didn't change, just the appearance). Texture is very soft and creamy, equivalent to Laura Mercier's shadow tubes.
I used a synthetic brush to stipple/buff this onto my lids at first then let my finger finish the job. I love the sparkle, color is unique,  gold-peach-orange with pink-purple sparkle shift... depending on light. I can see why it's selling out. I wore it for approximately 7 hours with no fading, smudging, or flaking... not like I expected any of those to happen.
At this time I'm happy with my new TF acquisition; interested to find out how it holds up over time.

IT Cosmetics Naturally Pretty Vol. 1 Matte Luxe Transforming Eyeshadow Palette

This a more versatile shadow palette from IT Cosmetics, but still classified as neutral. All mate shades with transforming pearl at the end, if you want to go beyond matte but barely so.
My favourite shadow in here is "sunset"... this rusty red is rich, smooth, and hard to resists.
I tend to check in on IT Cosmetics whenever they make an appearance on TSC. I've seen them showcase this palette, and one of the things that sold me on it is that their formula does not contain talc... I don't know it just seems like a good thing :)

It Cosmetics Naturally Pretty Essentials - Matte Luxe Transforming Eyeshadow Palette

I know for some it is all matte, all natural, all of the time.  For me it's about balance. Monday to Friday, I do try to have a more day/office/age suitable look, but that hasn't stopped me from wearing shimmer or a blue shadow. My workplace is very flexible when it comes to dress code; as long as you're not sporting an offensive slogan or BO, you're work appropriate.

I acquired this when I purchased IT Cosmetics anniversary showstopper from TSC; they had it on sale for the occasion; I felt justified. I've used it, enjoyed the formula of the shadows. The colors are "neutral meh". Nice payoff, but as the name of the palette states "basic". I have to be in a really special (aka uninspired) mood to reach just for this and only this. I'm just not the "no makeup makeup look" type; and don't plan to be. But I'm a fan of IT Cosmetics and so no regrets with this purchase.

Charlotte Tilbury Nocturnal Cat Eyes to Hypnotise - Silver Leopard

I'm not sure when, but not long after CT released her Magic Foundation I visited the counter at HR to acquire said foundation (I'll share my thoughts on it one of these days).

Today I'm continuing with my shadow series, to show you this additional purchase I made at the same time. I just can't resist anything with sparkle... department stores have the best lighting... like a jeweller... everything seems more fabulous.
I didn't make this purchase just for the sparkle, although that was an important factor... for some strange reason at that moment in front of CT counter I decided that I will start wearing smoky eye makeup more often. I don't know what I was thinking... I was possibly hungry and not thinking clearly; because I don't wear smokey eye looks like ever (occasionally my makeup will smudge and I'll have one by accident), and I have no night life to speak of (I prefer early mornings to late nights)... so I have no justification for this purchase... other than weak mind and no self-control.
I'm sure there is a tutorial somewhere out there on how to use this, I haven't looked. I do what I always do with intimidating shadows... use them as an eyeliner, or with a very, very light hand dust them onto my eyelid giving me a sheer wash of color not a statement... and it is lovely.
Shadows with a great sparkle never photograph very well (for me), but I do give it my best shot. Temptalia gives this shadow & pencil combo a rating of B+... but I found that Temptalia and I tend to disagree occasionally. So while I tend to read/watch product reviews, it is always with an open mind and sometimes a bit of skepticism (especially "sponsored" reviews) and in the end decide what's best for myself, on myself, by myself :)

July 17th... seriously pathetic...

yup, I'm talking about myself. On the 12th I went into Sephora at Yonge & Englinton and proclaimed it my Sephora beauty destination... then 5 days later I find myself at the Bloor location :) My husband needed a lip balm (his favorite is the one by Caudalie)... I needed nothing...

Nails Inc Nail Pure in Regents Place - cornflower blue perfection.  I'm loving blue so much right now... obviously can't just leave it on the shelf.

Sol Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum Cream - I played with it once before... I couldn't pass it up the second. The fact that only one box was left on the shelf helped to make the purchase. I find he scent intoxicating... it's just so delicious. They have a foot cream, I have my eye on it :)

Kat Von D Metal Crush Eyeshadow in Thunderstruck - oh my, soooo gorgeous... We actually left the store... and came back about 2 hours later because this beauty would not let go of my mind.  I think this Kat Von D collection might be a real gem.

Extra - another VIB rouge renewal gift... if the Sephora system did not update in the last 5 days I had no intention of correcting them. I don't think there is such a thing as too many good freebies.

New Sephora in TO!

A new Sephora opened in Toronto (Yonge & Eglinton). Official opening July 8th, pre-opening party July 7th. I received an invitation email but by the time I got around to reading it (4hrs after its arrival), the RSVP was closed... probably for the best. So I did not attend.

My first visit was on July 12th... and I have to say, hands down this is my favorite Sephora in Toronto. The layout, feeling of space, the brand-newness of everything... love it. Don't know if the feeling will last, but at this time this is where I'll be trekking for my beauty needs/wants.

I went in just to get a feel for the place... should have known better. I acquired two items, but still qualified for the tote perk because I spend over $50. I'm considering one item a want and the other a need.

Want - nail polish. A new thing from Formula-X; each month they'll have limited edition nail polish colors by collaborating with different beauties. July is Urban Bush Babes. Their collection consists of three colors: a deep jungle green, a shimmery nude, and this gold-green or green-gold beauty that I couldn't pass up called Seeing Double.

Need
- New release from Josie Maran, a Whipped Mud Mask Collection. A box of face masks that promise to hydrate, clear out and minimize pores, and give me a healthy glow. There are some odd dry patches on my cheeks, I hope these masks will help make go away.

Extra - As you would have it my VIB Rouge status renewed, and I received the renewal gift to remind me I spend too much money in Sephora :) This year it's a mini NARS blush in Goulue ... it's a fantastic treat if I didn't already own the full sized version. I'm going to categorize it as my travel essential :)

NARS Dual-Intensity Eyeshadow - Pool Shark

Last dual-intensity shadow I have to share is from current Summer release. There are 3, they are all limited edition, this is the only one I felt was worthy.
I've been on a lazy look out for a pretty periwinkle shadow for a couple of years now. So whenever I find myself in front of any shadows, my finger is automatically drawn to anything blue. When I swatched Pool Shark I was instantly in love...  it was a shimmery periwinkle... and I wanted it.

I haven't mastered photographing purples yet... and periwinkle is a tricky one for sure.
It was already sold out at Sephora (Bloor St. location), I got mine at Holt Renfrew.

NARS Dual-Intensity Eyeshadow - Pasiphae

"In Greek mythology, Pasiphaë (/pəˈsɪfᵻ.iː/; Greek: Πασιφάη Pasipháē, "wide-shining") was the daughter of Helios, the Sun, by the eldest of the Oceanids, Perse."

No regrets here. This shadow is unique in my collection. A quick finger swatch is all I needed to decide I wanted this for myself.
Even the color description sounds tempting "shimmering peacock burgundy".  It's sparkly, it's multi-dimensional, it's a bit of a duo-chrome, it's fun.
Not very often that I wear this on my lids (but there are days), however it's a frequent lower lash choice.

NARS Dual-Intensity Eyeshadow - Kari

My weak mind has been swindled into this purchase. Should have paid a visit to Sephora first and given it a proper swatch, because then I think I might have passed on this one. But I could not resist the power of YouTube... and shortly after watching a certain video, an order was placed, and a few days later Kari arrived.

Now, I don't want you thinking that I'm hating this shade, I'm not. Packaging is adorable, formulation is lovely. But I don't find the color to be anything special, and feel my collection isn't necessarily enhanced by this purchase. It's described as "soft rose pink" and on me this shade is perfect for those days I'm going for the understated/office appropriate/neutral eye look (sometimes I succeed, sometimes I don't). Trust me there are plenty of shadows in this stash of mine to pull off a look like that.

Maybe it will grow on me... maybe you'll see it in the 2017 MaD project :)
For now, I leave you with a swatch pic or two.

NARS Dual-Intensity Eyeshadow - Tarvos

I've purchased 4 individual dual-intensity shadows from NARS since March... makeup ban whaaaat???? The next four posts, will be dedicated to them.

First up is Tarvos... as far as I know this is relatively new NARS addition, but permanent at the same time. So you should not worry if you want it, but it's not in stock... It will be back.
These individual compacts are so cute, and irresistible... and I seem to be collecting them. Tarvos is a sexy icy mint that I like to wear all over my lid on Sundays (a light dry wash of color)... some liner, mascara, foundation, concealer, blush, bronzer, brow sculpting, powder, lip gloss.... and I'm good to go :)
I also Googled the meaning of the word. Tarvos (/ˈtɑːrvoʊs/ TAR-vəs), or Saturn XXI, is a prograde irregular satellite of Saturn. There you go a balance of shallow and educational :)

Below some swatches, both dry... but the one on the left is heavy handed, and the one on the right not... enjoy :)
If you're into color (specifically mint green), sparkle, fun, and your budget allows it... then spoil yourself with this fun beauty :)

Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Luminous Blush in Camellia

I love Snapdragon, it is such an outstanding blush from Becca; which made me crave another from this collection. I chose Camellia because I loved the online swatches of it... and after Snapdragon I liked it the most when I played around in Sephora.
Described as "ballerina pink" it is a beautiful baby pink with gold highlight.
I have too many gorgeous blush choices in the morning... bu this one has been making regular appearance on my cheeks :)
Best description of this shade I've read was by Laura... spot on. If you're a blush lover then you most likely own at least one of these... if you're not but are looking for something with outstanding formula then look no further.

Project Make a Dent (MaD 2016 - 2nd quarter update)

So it's been 6 months... here are the start, the first check in, and current status.

What I chose in January... you can read about it here
And three months later this is what I had to say...
Here we are, 2016 half-way point.
The breakdown...

Guerlain Météorites Powder For The Face in Teint Rosé 01 - I use this daily... I don't know how it looks like I don't.

CHANEL SOLEIL TAN DE CHANEL - Bronzing Makeup Base - It's coming along bit by bit by bit... Seeing where I stand half-way through the year, it might be another year or two before I actually use it up.

Burberry Eye Liner in Midnight Blue - It's definitely shorter than at the beginning of the year. I'm using it but I'm not loving it. I've had it for some time, so the formula is a bit dry, and I find crumbs on my cheeks as I slide this along my lid... but with some shadow on top of it, it looks good.

Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill  #7 Sweet Fire - Did not use it once in the last 3 months.

CHANEL Illusion D'Ombre - Illusoire (83) - Same with this... it sits right in front of me... but I bypass it every single morning.

CHANEL Rouge Coco Shine - Rebelle 63 - I've had it on my lips a handful of times since the last check it. Not enough to notice the difference. It's a fun bright shade... it will get its share of play in the next couple of months.

Anastasia Beverly Hills: Brow Ex-press - Yeahhh look at that progress... feeling good that this will be done soon enough.

Next update early in October... holly crap will be all loving fall trends by then :)

No excuses... just a story...

Yesterday I went into Sephora (on Bloor St.) because I wanted a couple of disposable mascara wands, and given how much money I spend there annually I figured they won't mind if I help myself. No purchase was intended; and none happened... at Sephora that is. But while there, I passed by the NARS display and saw their Summer release... because I am who I am, I was drawn to the new blue (at least it looked blue in the pan) shadow called Pool Shark... then I swatched it, and it was a gorgeous periwinkle blue leaning a bit more towards purple. I wanted it... and off to Holt Refrew we strolled.

Literally 5 min later... I walk out with these treats... in order of purchase.

NARS Dual-Intensity Eyeshadow in Pool Shark - explanation above... so weak.

Tom Ford Cream Color For Eyes in Sphinx - My first and only Tom Ford makeup item (not counting nail polish, I have 2). I've watched Tati gush all over this shadow, and how hard it is to find. So I strolled by TF display to see what all the hoopla is about. There was none to be played with, but an SA approached me asking if she can assist me with anything...
Me: Well I'm looking for a cream shadow called Sphinx but I see you have none.
SA: No, I believe we have one left. Last one... let me check.
Me: anticipation building, while she opens a drawer and has a look
SA: Yup, here it is. We've received two shipments so far, and this is just selling out.
Me: Will you sell this one to me?
SA: Of course... then she drops it
Husband: ooops there it goes... broken
Me: I'm still buying it. I'm a lost cause
The shadow is fine... it's sturdy TF packaging. Planing to swatch it next weekend. Hopefully I'll love it.

CHANEL Le Vernis Longwear Nail Colour in Emeraude - I was out the door, but the Chanel counter looked busy, so I thought perfect time to do a slow stroll by.... it turned into a pit stop for a gorgeous shade of green (Emeraude means Emerald in French). It's been a while since I treated myself to a Chanel polish... they have gotten more expensive... still no regrets with this beauty.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Metallic Luster Liner - Liquid Silver

As promised Liquid Silver. So creamy, so rich, so metallic.... so love it :)
I'll let my swatches to all the talking.

Anastasia needs to come out with a copper one, so I can have a pretty metallic trio :)
